Health Care Reform
There have been a lot of discussions around the health care reform, which seem to me all very superficial, as they only address the issue of the insurances. To me, the problem is much more profound, and global. Being familiar with both the French and American systems, it seems pretty obvious that their differences are only cosmetic: In France, the government, lobbied by the pharmaceutical industry controls the money; in America, private insurance companies, owned by the pharmaceutical industry control the money. In both case, money directs the criteria dictating the practice of medicine. Their choice of medicine is an expensive one, treating only the symptoms – the consequences of the sickness – and not the cause and leaving patients and doctors equally dissatisfied.
None of that would have happened, had we listened to Benjamin Rush, one of the a Founding Fathers of the United States who at the 18th century was already promoting public health by advocating clean environment: “Unless we put medical freedom into the Constitution, the time will come when medicine will organize into an undercover dictatorship to restrict the art of healing to one class of Men and deny equal privileges to others; the Constitution of the Republic should make a Special privilege for medical freedoms as well as religious freedom.”
Most unfortunately, medical freedom was not included into the Constitution, and now we have to deal with a corrupted, drowning health system. No better and more striking not-so prophetic analysis than the introduction written by Dr. Ghislaine Lanctôt in the 2002 re-edition of her book “The Medical Mafia”1:
- “Competition is being eliminated. Researchers are being reoriented. Dissidents are imprisoned or being shown up and reduced to silence. The alternative products hat are profitable are being recuperated by multinationals thanks to the legislation of the Codex of the WHO (World Health Organization) and the patents of the WTO.
- Cunningly stoked by the authorities and the media that serves them, a fearful panic of sickness, of aging and of death is haunting the population. The obsession to survive at all costs makes the international traffic of organs, blood and human fetuses prosper… also at all cost.
- Food is irradiated, milk pasteurized, genes modified, water is contaminated, and the air is poisoned. Children receive 35 vaccines before entering the school system. Whole families are drugged; the father on Viagra, the mother on Prozac, and the children on Ritalin. Soon, their security, their normality, and their happiness will be assured by the implantation of the microchip, as we do with animals. In fertility clinics we produce, by artificial insemination, triplets and quadruplets, and a good quantity of embryos are being stockpiled. Human cloning is around the corner. You have gone mad, the cows cry at us.”
Going back to the Founding Fathers, Benjamin Franklin has taught us that “Ignorance leads to the loss of Freedom”. We will take back our power over health and exercise our sovereignty on ourselves through movements that promote healthy eating, wellness at all levels, organic GMO-free products, and teach medical students a form of medicine that recognizes environmental medicine, nutrition and psychology as part of their education.
