Lawn Chairs and Uterine Fibroids: The important connection.

What if women could reduce their chances of Uterine Fibroids simply by soaking up the sun? Get your lawn chairs ladies as Vitamin D is your way to reducing your risk.

Uterine fibroids happen to be the most common benign tumors in women of childbearing age. It is important to note that these non-cancerous growths are not associated with an increased risk in uterine/ovarian cancer and rarely develop into such. Uterine fibroids rarely require medical treatment but can be shrunk or removed by various therapies and surgical options.

The Leiomyomata (uterine fibroid) varies in size however is similar in appearance. Usually round and tan colored, these lesions can range from golf ball to grapefruit size appearing in the uterus in single or multiple form. The majority of time, if a fibroid is larger in size, it can be felt through the abdominal wall.

It is important to note that 3 out of 4 women have uterine fibroids sometime during their lives. Due to no obvious symptoms such as pelvic pain or excessive bleeding, most women are unaware they have them. A routine exam or ultrasound at your gynecologist may show uterine fibroids but it is not a cause for concern.

Get your Vitamin D at the beach!

New research conducted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) suggests that having an adequate intake of Vitamin D can shrink the risk of developing these fibroids by a third. In addition, a study published in, “Epidemiology” notes that women who have sufficient amounts of Vitamin D are 32% less likely to develop uterine fibroids than those with lower levels. This study also noted that women who spend more than an hour outside in the sun per day decreased their risk by up to 40%.[1]

The human body makes Vitamin D when skin is exposed to the sun, however during the winter when the sun becomes a limited commodity, consuming foods and natural supplements rich in D is imperative to increasing Vitamin D intake.

“It would be wonderful if something as simple and inexpensive as getting some natural sunshine on their skin each day could help women reduce their chance of getting fibroids.” – Dr. Donna Baird, National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS)[2]

I think so too.

Ovarian Cancer National Alliance & The Beljanski Foundation

I recently received this e-mail from the

Ovarian Cancer National Alliance

“The staff and board of directors of the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance were saddened to hear of the passing of Linda Koteen last month. Herself a breast cancer survivor, Linda was a tireless advocate for women with ovarian cancer. She served on the Alliance’s board of directors from 2002 to 2010.

‘This is a big loss of one of our great leaders, she will be missed by so many and long remembered for her tireless work and support of our community,’ said Calaneet Balas, CEO of the Alliance.

As chair of the Alliance’s advocacy committee, Linda was a champion for our annual “Hill Day,” urging women affected by ovarian cancer to visit the offices of their members of Congress. Linda made sure the patient’s voice was heard on Capitol Hill.

Linda became involved with SHARE, a Partner Member and founder of the Alliance, after her own diagnosis with breast cancer. She later became Director of Ovarian Programs at SHARE and served as a voice for women with this disease.

The Alliance will honor Linda during our 16th Annual Conference this July.”

I assume that the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance is not using the passing of one of its members for an e-mail campaign, rather has sent this e-mail because of my involvement with the cause of ovarian cancer.

I am therefore reaching out to the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance to join forces and ask for their support of The Beljanski Foundation and the promising research program on ovarian cancer. The first publication released by Kansas University Medical Center on ovarian cancer cells was very promising, and The Beljanski Foundation has since been able to secure funding for an in vivo research program. A second article describing the impressive results on mice has now been accepted, and will soon be published. All that without any support so far from the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance.

I sincerely hope this will change, and that the passing of Linda Koteen will encourage every body to learn about and support the promising research programs that stem from the late Micro Biologist, Dr. Mirko Beljanski’s scientific legacy.

To learn more about the research conducted at The University of Kansas Medical Center, how you can make a difference, and ways to stay up to date on The Beljanski Foundation, please visit us online at www.beljanski.com.

New Research Confirming the Anti-Cancer Effects of Pao Pereira!

On behalf of the Beljanski Foundation, it is my great pleasure to announce that another research article from The University of Kansas Medical Center, confirming Professor Mirko Beljanski’s work has just recently come out!

New Research on the Effects of Pao Pereira

The article entitled “Inhibition of pancreatic cancer and potentiation of Gemcitabine effects by the extract of Pao Pereira”, not only verifies Professor Beljanski’s body of work, but also expands on it thus representing a great step in the Beljanski Foundation’s mission. Due to be published in July in the Oncology Reports Journal, this article helps to confirm the therapeutic use of the Pao Pereira extract.

As one of the most lethal types of cancer in the world, the lack of effective therapy is a major problem with the treatment of pancreatic cancer. As the 4th leading cause of cancer related fatalities, Pancreatic Cancer patients have an overall 5-year survival rate of only 3-5%, due to limited early detection tools, the aggressive nature of the disease, and limited treatment options.

New pre-clinical studies conducted with mice, both in vitro an in vivo, confirm that adding Pao Pereira to the treatment regiment reduced the concentration of Gemcitabine to produce an equitoxic effect on pancreatic cancer cells. The Pao’s anti-cancer effect was seen in vivo and in vitro working alone and in conjunction with other chemotherapy treatments. Over the course of the study, the Pao was seen to suppress tumor growth significantly, by up to 72%.

This confirms another study, published just a few years ago, out of Columbia University demonstrating that the two plant extracts, Pao Pereira and Rauwolfia Vomitoria, contain Beta-Carbolines with effective anti-cancer properties which inhibit cancer cell growth, even in those cells resistant to drugs used in chemotherapy. This study, specific to anti-prostate cancer activity, also substantiated that all healthy cells were not negatively affected, thus demonstrating the safety of the plant extracts prepared by the Beljanski method.

With such promising initial results, the research will continue on Pao Paereira to assess its effectiveness on other types of cancerous cells!

Lack of integrity does not pay off!

The ongoing horsemeat scandal where it is being sold as beef or pork is all over the European press. These events are however not very surprising: it was more than obvious that the businesses seeking to lower prices and make bigger profit would eventually try such a thing in an attempt to make even more money.

This is a trend that we can notice over the past 40 years: the contaminated blood case, where blood contaminated with HIV continued to be distributed even when it was well known about the problem in the general population, the growth hormone case, sourced in psychiatric hospitals and prisons as it was cheaper, or the defective breast implant scandal, where poor quality material was used, or recently the lasagna scandal which was made with horse meat. All these cases were simply fraud.

On the level of drugs there is also plenty of lies and corruption. The Swiss pharmaceutical company Novartis was first accused of inciting pharmacists to promote its drug, Myfortic®, by paying illegal bribes. The U.S. Department of Justice filed a second civil complaint against Novartis Pharmaceuticals citing bribes paid by Novartis to health care providers. The government intends to obtain damages from the company for bribing doctors to prescribe Novartis products. However, these scandals does not prevent the U.S. government, from ordering millions of doses of vaccines from Novartis at every opportunity, even to cover purely theoretical hazards as the avian flu risk, as stated on the French website of Citizens’ Initiative.

New Research on the Effects of Pao Pereira

In this environment devoid of integrity where no one longer knows which way to turn, it is particularly important to remember that Natural Source International, Ltd. supplied the products thanks to which another new study was able to be completed by the researchers at Kansas University Medical Center, entitled “Inhibition of pancreatic cancer and potentiation of gemcitabine by the effects of Pao Pereira extract” and published in “Oncology Reports” scientific journal (vol.10 No. 1, pp. 149-156, 2013 – doi: 10.3892/or.2013.2461 ).

This study yet again confirms the theoretical and practical importance of Professor Beljanski’s research and the essential role played by well-chosen supplements. This choice is even more important in a world where lack of integrity and discipline is the norm. If you are selling quality purified extracts, which are carefully monitored and measured for quality, the cost cannot be the same as lower quality products, because you need to pay for the very best ingredients, the proper extraction procedure to ensure appropriate concentration of the active ingredients and the people involved in manufacturing deserve to be paid for their excellent work as well. All this eventually has to be reflected in the price of the finished product. This is called investing in quality!

Fear and money!

On May 14th the New York Times  published an article on Angelina Jolie’s recent breast surgery. Having discovered that she was a carrier of the BRCA1 gene, the actress decided to remove both of her breasts as a preventative measure, and later told the press that a preventative double mastectomy and a breast implant reconstruction was the only responsible choice available. With the surgery being a success, Angelina Jolie declared that she wanted her experience to be an example and benefit other women carrying the same gene. Her courage was universally praised by the well-meaning press.
